I was there from 2016 until 2020. But, as 2019 went into 2020, I strongly felt the desire to leave but no idea really what I’d be leaving for. What would be next?

I spent January praying at the counsel of a dear brother and come February, I’d handed in my notice. Every year, we celebrate Freedom Day in our house March 13th as that was my last day working for this bank. From there, my life changed in the most beautiful way.

My point is, in the two weeks following my departure from Lloyd’s, it was announced that thousands of jobs were to be cut in a step toward a stronger digital banking system. On top of this, the first pandemic lockdown began and my working hours would have been almost halved anyway, even if I’d kept my job.

If I had become lethargic in my walk with the Lord having had the victory of becoming employed at a major financial institution, I would have had the terrible, life-changing experience of losing that job. Then I would have been lost amid the chaos of Covid-19 lockdowns that closed thousands of businesses. Just like everyone else who isn’t yet a redeemed child of God.

I love the story of Elijah. It’s taught me so much. If Elijah got all excited about his command to go to the brook but wasn’t focused on knowing God as opposed to just His will, he would have had the nasty surprise of the brook drying up.

‘My amazingly laid out plans ft. God’ are going to be useless. Even if God has told me to do something, knowing His will is not going to benefit me if walking in that will leaves God behind. Without God, His will for your life will leave you stranded.

So, stop praying, “I just want to know your will for my life.” Instead, listen to the writer of Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.”

This was what you were created for - knowing God, not His will.

When you make seeking God your focus, walking in the Spirit - your written destiny - is second nature. Knowing God’s will for your life is default when you choose to just know Him.

Absorb scripture, understand the nature of your Father in heaven and what and how you pray will change drastically.

James 4:3, “You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.” James is saying that the prayers he is hearing of are coming to nothing because the motivation is carnal and selfish. It’s prayer that has no foundation in the nature of God.
