He was to be the perfect, blemishless sacrifice for all humanity. The one who knew no sin, took on sin so that a covenant could be made between the Son and the Father, making a way for <\/span><strong><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">all to receive forgiveness<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">Yet, we also have this contrasting title for Jesus: the <\/span><strong><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">Lion of Judah<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">Yes, Jesus is the gentle lamb that was led to the slaughter but there is nothing meek or mild about <\/span><strong><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">this other aspect of our warrior King<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">!<\/span><\/p><p><strong><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">It all began with the prophecy<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\"> spoken by a father over his son. This son was not the eldest and so it did not make cultural sense to proclaim such a blessing and this alone confirms its significance.<\/span><\/p><p><em><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">\u201cJudah is a lion's whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he crouched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come\u2026\u201d<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\"> Genesis 49:9-10<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">At the time, Jacob could never have known the full meaning of his prophecy over Judah. <\/span><strong><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">Jacob spoke of the coming Messiah<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\"> and the Kingdom that would, \u201c...be upon his shoulder\u2026\u201d just like Isaiah says.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><em><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">\u201cOf the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever.\u201d<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\"> Isaiah 9:7<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">As it is with Jesus\u2019 parables, He chose to align Himself with something that we are already familiar with in order that we may come to a <\/span><strong><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">better understanding of who He is<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">The lion is highly revered worldwide, especially in Hebrew culture, with the Talmud stating that <\/span><strong><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">the lion is \u201cking of the beasts\u201d<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">. Lions were even chosen as part of the decor in the Temple as statedin 1 Kings 7:9. Yet, <\/span><strong><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">still Christ came<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">Every time we call <\/span><strong><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">Jesus \u201cLion of Judah\u201d<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\">, we are reminding ourselves and the demonic forces that the victory is already won and in the most splendid, near-impossible way.
