The single most important part of any airport is the control tower. From there, the day to day coordination is carried out to ensure that aircraft, sometimes from all corners of the world, gets to where it needs to go safely.

For us, the mind is the control tower of our life. From there, we coordinate and determine everything we will ever do. Have a look at this amazing statement:

“As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Proverbs 23:7

What we think determines who we are and what we can and will become. If you don’t like who you are, then it’s not anyone or anything else’s fault but your own. You think it, you become it.

Galatians 6:7-8 “…whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.”

You’ve heard it said that words are seeds that get planted and it’s true. But take it back a step further. Every thought is a seed. You sow a thought and it reaps an action, be that a word or deed. We’ve just read that we can either sow to the flesh or the Spirit and we do so with our thoughts.

And this is measurable. 2 Corinthians 9:6 “...whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” And Luke 6:38, “For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” That is to say, the amount we think about something will proportionately be evident in our lives, be that good or evil.

What we think about controls us - our relationships to God, each other, accomplishments and failures are all determined by our thoughts. So, it stands to reason that we ought to control our thoughts! But can we?

There is so much of our lives that is beyond our control but we can control our thoughts. Self-control is a fruit of the spirit, Gal 5:22-23. Christ does not and will never expect anything unreasonable of us so self-control, which absolutely includes control of thoughts, is reasonable. I’ll come back to this a bit later.

What we expose ourselves to will always affect our thoughts. Better yet, it will program us.

We should be programmed to think the way that God thinks and operate with His kind of faith, His kind of love, His kind of perspective. Basic computers all the way up to artificial intelligence are programmed by being fed information. Data is continuously input in order to even self-programme. So what data are we feeding our minds? What’s being received up there in the control tower? Whatever it is, our lives are being written with it.

We can be programmed to think the way that God thinks by renewing our minds.

Romans 12:1-2 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, (self-control) which is your reasonable (there’s the word, it’s not impossible) service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

The term “brainwashed” is always seen as negative but this is not the case for believers in Jesus. We are to be brainwashed by Scripture which transforms us. Look at Ephesians 5:25-26, “Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word.”

The more we read the Word, the more we are allowing Christ to cleanse and and brainwash us. It is data that can program us correctly. It’s the updated software for our control tower. Without it, we will become whatever else it is that we are thinking about.

Jacob Shepherd

CEO & Co-Founder | Revival

:::::::::::::::::

Want to receive our weekly blog posts and be notified first about our new designs and sales?
