Recently, some jet lag from our trip to Canada was telling my body that 01:30am was in fact four hours behind and so, despite feeling tired, my brain was not shutting down any time soon.<\/span><\/p>

So, I spent some time in one of my favourite spaces: alone in the quiet dark of my room with my thoughts and <\/span>almighty God<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>

This phrase <\/span>\u201chonour to whom honour is due\u201d<\/span><\/em> came to mind unprompted so I just allowed my mind to ponder and meditate. Very sure that it was a verse <\/span>somewhere<\/span><\/em> in the Bible, I quickly found it and felt <\/span>met with a challenge<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>

Paul was stating something very controversial for his time. The persecution of the christians under Roman rule, especially to those he was addressing this letter to, was intense.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Respect? Honour?<\/span><\/strong> You can imagine that there were many Roman Christians at the time who were prickled at these words.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

It\u2019s hard but respect and <\/span>honour is sometimes required by position<\/span><\/strong>. Your boss, your government, your teachers, etc.<\/span><\/p>

We are ordered in Scripture, regardless of these peoples\u2019 character, to \u2018render therefore to all their dues\u2019.<\/span><\/p>

And here was the challenge I felt met with.<\/span><\/p>

Let\u2019s take parents, for example. Again, <\/span>we are instructed by Scripture<\/span><\/strong> in Ephesians 6:2 to, <\/span>\u201cHonour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>

Regardless of our parents character, religious beliefs or the level of care we receive from them, <\/span>honour is due<\/span><\/strong>. So, how much more honour should our parents receive if they have raised us with intent, schooled us, instilled character and opened our eyes to the love of God?<\/span><\/p>

So, allow me to challenge you. Ponder the people in your life. There are those who have positions of authority that you submit to and you honour them instinctively. You have to.<\/span><\/p>

But take some time to consider <\/span>how you can honour those who have led by example<\/span><\/strong>. It can be all too easy to take them for granted.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cLet the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honour, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching.\u201d <\/span><\/em>1 Timothy 5:17<\/span><\/p>
