We are made of three parts: a <\/span>Spirit, a Soul and a Body<\/span><\/strong>. Our Soul is where our mind, will and emotions exist. (See our previous blog post <\/span>here<\/u><\/span><\/a>.) We speak from experience when we say that the Soul can become fragile after a while!<\/span><\/p>

I once saw a quote that said, <\/span>\u201cWe are not defined by our actions but by our <\/span>re-<\/span><\/em>actions.\u201d<\/span><\/strong> This principle can be directly applied to David. He may have only been a young shepherd when he wrote Psalm 23, but we know from his reactions that he really believed that <\/span>God was the restorer of his soul<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>

Take 1 Samuel, chapter 30 for example. David\u2019s entire family, and the families of all his soldiers, had been seized by the enemy. These men had been away at war and were excited to finally come home only to find ash and ruin.<\/span><\/p>

This is where we see a remarkable show of character from David.<\/span><\/p>

Despite having no more power to weep (verse 4) and his men wanting to stone him, we read in verse 6, <\/span>\u201c\u2026but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>

David knew, with absolute certainty, that <\/span>God would give him strength<\/span><\/strong> for this new challenge; that God would restore his soul.<\/span><\/p>

This story has a great outcome and it goes to prove that <\/span>we need never struggle on in our own efforts<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>

Even Jesus, God incarnate, recognised this principle written by his ancestor. There are multiple times recorded in the Gospels where <\/span>Jesus took time away from everyone and everything to receive restoration <\/span><\/strong>and pray with the Father.<\/span><\/p>

Luke 6:12 <\/span>\u201cAnd it came to pass in those days, that He went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>

David's words offer reassurance. He knew that in simply taking time to be still, t<\/span>he Father can restore the soul with heavenly TLC<\/span><\/strong>. Let God in and you'll soon blossom again with new life.<\/span><\/p>
