These are words that have stayed with me since I was a young boy.<\/p>

Do you desire more<\/strong> sometimes? More<\/strong> available finances? A better<\/strong> car? Bigger<\/strong> house and garden? A promotion<\/strong> in your workplace or church?<\/p>

These are good things and, of course, it\u2019s God\u2019s desire to abundantly bless his children. If you desire more then great! This is the first step<\/strong> to making a change in your life.<\/p>

However, before we can step into that future blessing, we must first assess where we are today.<\/strong><\/p>

Here is the truth<\/strong> that I don\u2019t want to hear: \u201cBeing responsible for what you have right now demonstrates that you have the capacity to be responsible for whatever may come next.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

Stewardship like this is absolutely crucial<\/strong> for anyone who wants to experience more from the Lord.<\/p>

Let\u2019s look at the life of a familiar character from Scripture, King David.<\/strong> Although, he was far from being a King to begin with.<\/p>

David is introduced in 1 Samuel 16:11 as the youngest son of Jesse. Samuel had been told by the Lord that the future King of Israel was among Jesse\u2019s sons <\/strong>but after examining those that Jesse presented, the Lord had not chosen any of them.<\/p>

This itself is extraordinary<\/strong> to me - Jesse had been called by name by the prophet, Samuel, to attend the sacrifice and David had not been included.<\/strong> Then Samuel starts to examine each of Jesse\u2019s sons one by one but David is still not summoned.<\/p>

Where was David? Humbly being responsible<\/strong> for his father\u2019s flocks of sheep in the hills.<\/p>

Most of us know that David is then summoned and anointed by Samuel to be king, the spirit of God comes upon David but is not immediately crowned king. Instead, he enters into the next season<\/strong> of his life with increased responsibilit<\/strong>y - soothing Saul\u2019s mind with music, bearing his armour.<\/p>

God gave David <\/strong>the opportunity<\/strong> to be immersed in what was royal culture at the time. David learned from the ground up what it was like to be the king and no doubt he witnessed a great many things that helped him to build a picture of what would be expected of him.<\/p>

Patiently and humbly,<\/strong> he grew in this position, going between his father\u2019s flocks and the palace of the king, watching and waiting for his time to come.<\/strong><\/p>

As a shepherd, we know he killed a lion and a bear. David put his very life on the line<\/strong> to ensure his present responsibilities<\/strong> were taken care of. As an employee of the king, David accepted his position of servitude to the disturbed king with great humility even though he knew his affirmed destiny.<\/strong><\/p>

From here, we know that David leaned on God\u2019s Word <\/strong>and the victories that God had already given him in order to step forward and defeat Goliath. David goes on to win great victories for Israel, is given promotion, the king\u2019s daughter and wins the hearts of the people of Israel.<\/p>

Step by step, David\u2019s opportunities and responsibilities increased<\/strong> as he excelled in each stage,<\/strong> leaning fully on the Lord.<\/p>

There is so much more to the story of David before he is finally crowned king but the two questions<\/strong> that meets us here are,<\/p>

1. \u201cWhat stage of growth has the Lord brought you to?\u201d<\/em> and,<\/p>

2. \u201cHow well are you stewarding it?\u201d<\/em><\/p>

Desire more<\/strong>, dream big and expect the blessings of God, your loving Father. But then examine where you are today and look at your current responsibilities. Challenge yourself<\/strong> to embrace a new level of meekness and be faithful in that which is least<\/strong> today and the Lord will<\/em>, as it says in 1 Peter 5:6, \u201c\u2026exalt you in due time.\u201d<\/em><\/p>
