\u201c\u2026man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.\u201d Matthew 4:4<\/p><\/blockquote>

I\u2019ve always done my best to stay fit and healthy. My Dad was a wonderful role model<\/strong> to me in that he was a triathlete and passed on his passion for fitness and discipline. I\u2019m not going to set any records but because of my Dad\u2019s coaching when I was young, I can still manage a 10k run in less than an hour. <\/p>

The problem is though,<\/strong> if I don\u2019t keep my running consistent, I start to lose fitness<\/strong> and have to build it back up again. Being on the other side of thirty now, this definitely doesn\u2019t take as long as it used to!<\/p>

Back in the winter of 2021 into 2022, we had a young man stay with us who was having difficulty in his life at home. Because he was an amateur bodybuilder, we learned a lot about strength training<\/strong> and gym culture. <\/p>

To paraphrase, one of the most important things he shared was, \u201cBuilding muscle is one thing. Maintaining it is another.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>

However, while taking care of ourselves is a good thing, there\u2019s a higher priority. <\/strong><\/p>

\u201c\u2026exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things\u2026\u201d<\/em> 1 Timothy 4:7-8<\/p>

As you have heard me say many times, we are made of the three parts: Spirit, Soul and Body. <\/strong>Our Spirit is perfect, full of strength and power. But it\u2019s the Soul that limits how much of that comes out. <\/p>

Similarly, our Body has strength but it\u2019s the Soul (the mind, will and emotions) that determines how much of that strength<\/strong> we believe we can use.<\/p>

We can train our bodies to grow muscle and endurance by working out regularly and consuming the right nutrients. But the same principles apply to faith<\/strong> therefore it\u2019s so important that we think of faith just like we do our muscle groups. It\u2019s just a muscle group that we can\u2019t see.<\/p>

The more we use it and feed it the right things, the stronger it gets. What\u2019s known as \u2018muscle memory\u2019 kicks in and we build momentum forward with our faith<\/strong> as our Soul learns to allow the Spirit of God within us to manifest.<\/p>

But,<\/strong> if this spiritual muscle group is not used and\/or not fed, we begin to \u2018lose fitness\u2019.<\/p>

We are not just a physical body that can be sustained on bread alone. We are a Spirit<\/strong> and a Soul too. <\/p>

Let this be your sign<\/strong> that it is time to \u201chunger and thirst after righteousness\u201d<\/em> like Jesus said<\/strong> in Matthew 5:6. There\u2019s blessing there. There\u2019s power<\/em> there! <\/p>

Feed this hunger the daily \u2018bread of heaven\u2019<\/em> - every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God - and start taking small steps today that will exercise your faith <\/strong>unto godliness.<\/p>
