The first person to ask who God is and get an answer was the runaway murderer, Moses. <\/span><\/p>

Moses. The man who did not belong. Born to a Hebrew father, raised by an Egyptian Pharaoh, taken in by the Midianite high priest, Jethro.<\/span><\/p>

Statistics speak for themselves on the calamities that arise from someone growing up without an active father in their life. Poverty, crime, failed educations and promiscuity have all been directly connected to fatherless homes for centuries.<\/span><\/p>

Moses was no exception.<\/span><\/p>

Scripture doesn\u2019t tell us exactly what Moses was thinking, but if we put ourselves in his shoes (or sandals in this case) for a minute, I\u2019m sure we can all agree that it was something like, \u201cWhere did I come from? Where do I belong?\u201d<\/span><\/p>

And that\u2019s why God\u2019s response in Exodus 3 is so beautiful. God appears in a burning bush and answers the question that Moses\u2019 voiced but also the one Moses\u2019 heart: \u201cWhere did I come from?\u201d <\/span><\/p>

The famous words are uttered, \u201cI AM THAT I AM.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

It\u2019s important to understand that Moses came from, and was set to return to, the world\u2019s current epicentre of polytheistic paganism. Therefore, God wanted to ensure that there was no confusion as to what deity Moses was meeting with.<\/span><\/p>

There could be no mistake. This burning bush was not Ra, Horus or Anubis. This was the God of the Moses\u2019 ancestors and now he remembered. Why else would he hide his face?<\/span><\/p>

I AM THAT I AM. This is such a fantastic phrase in Hebrew. It\u2019s almost impossible to get a clear translation in English because of how deeply cultural it is.<\/span><\/p>

Hebrew names are all about function and purpose. They\u2019re not just a tag that\u2019s influenced by pop culture.<\/span><\/p>

One of the greatest examples is Jesus, Yeshua. He didn\u2019t bring Salvation. His name <\/span>is <\/span><\/em>Salvation because He is and always will be Salvation.<\/span><\/p>

I AM THAT I AM can be translated multiple ways which allude to multiple <\/span>functions<\/span><\/em>, but they all apply.<\/span><\/p>

Alpha and Omega - I existed first and all existence came after me. I created it. I am The Creator.<\/span><\/p>

Something special is beginning to dawn on Moses in this moment because after years of being passed around and never truly fitting in, God Himself was taking ownership of him.<\/p>

Moses and the Hebrew people had lost sight of their Father. They didn\u2019t know who He was anymore. They were lost in the polytheistic bombardment of their every day.<\/span><\/p>

Joseph knew God and Jacob knew God. But over 400 years, how much of God\u2019s nature was taught to the new generation? However, somehow, someone somewhere began to call on God because in Exodus 3:7 it says that God heard the cry of His people.<\/span><\/p>

The desperate Father was watching and waiting for his children to stop struggling alone and remember Him.<\/span><\/p>

But then the day came.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cThis nation, my children, called on me you gonna go tell them, \u2018Daddy\u2019s coming!\u2019 That\u2019s right, son. You belong to me. All of you. And, boy, do I have a special job for you!\u201d<\/span><\/p>

My favourite translation of the Hebrew I AM THAT I AM is, \u201cI can be whatever I need to be for <\/span>you<\/span><\/em>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>
